What information do we collect?
We collect only what you choose to give us through the forms on this website:
- Your first and last name and email address
- Your phone number, street address and ZIP code (the street address is required to request a yard sign, endorse Aaron or pledge your vote)
- How you would like to help, such as a yard sign, walking neighborhoods, phone banking or hosting a meet-and-greet
- If you endorse Aaron: your title or organization, a short statement of support, and whether we may publish your name
- If you pledge your vote: how you plan to vote (mail ballot, drop box or in person)
- Any message you write to us
- If you arrived from a campaign link, an ad or an email, the name of that link or campaign
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider also records standard technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
How do we collect it?
You give us your information directly when you:
- Fill out the "Count Me In" form on the homepage
- Endorse Aaron on the endorsements page
- Send us a message through the contact form
- Email the campaign
How do we use it?
The Campaign uses your information to:
- Reply to your message or question
- Deliver a yard sign, schedule volunteering or set up a meet-and-greet you asked about
- Send campaign updates and voting reminders, if you asked to receive them
- Publish your name (and title, if given) as an endorser, only if you gave permission
- Match your submission to public voter registration records, which political campaigns may use under California law, so we know your council district and do not contact you twice
- Keep the website secure and working
If you give us a phone number, we will use it only to respond to you or to coordinate the help you offered. The Campaign does not send text messages through this website.
We do not sell your information to anyone.
Who do we share it with?
We share information only with the service providers that run this website, and only as needed for them to do so:
- Cloudflare hosts the website and protects it from spam and attacks.
- HighLevel (GoHighLevel) stores form submissions in the Campaign's contact list and notifies the Campaign by email.
We may also disclose information when required by law, such as campaign finance reporting (see the next section), a subpoena or a court order.
Donations and campaign finance law
Donations are processed by Anedot, a third-party payment platform, on its own secure website. We do not receive or store your card number. Anedot's handling of your payment information is governed by its own privacy policy.
California law requires campaigns to publicly report the name, address, occupation and employer of anyone who contributes $100 or more. If you donate, the information required by law will appear in the Campaign's public filings. Contributions to the Campaign are not tax deductible.
How do we store it, and for how long?
Form submissions are stored securely in the Campaign's contact list in HighLevel (GoHighLevel). We keep your information for as long as the campaign needs it to stay in touch with you, and for as long as campaign finance law requires us to keep records. You may ask us to delete your information at any time, except records the law requires us to keep.
Campaign updates and opting out
If you check "Campaign updates" on a form, we may email you news about the campaign and ways to help. You can stop these at any time by replying to any update and asking to be removed, or through our contact form.
Your choices and rights
You can ask the Campaign to:
- Tell you what information we have about you and give you a copy
- Correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- Delete your information, except records the law requires us to keep
- Stop sending you emails or calling you
There is no charge for any of these requests. To make one, contact us.
